Before Parliament began its Easter recess, High Peak MP Robert Largan called for a debate on disabled access to public transport.
Robert spoke about the specific circumstances in Chinley, which is home to a growing population and a special school academy. There is no step-free access to the railway station in Chinley. This denies access to public transport for many local residents.
The High Peak MP made it clear to ministers in the House of Commons that this is unacceptable in this day and age.
The Leader of the House of Commons, Jacob Rees-Mogg, encouraged Robert to keep pushing on the subject and responded:
“This issue affects many railway stations and it is one that is taken seriously by the Government.”
The High Peak MP has also been pushing High Peak Council to provide funding for a feasibility study for step-free access at Chinley Station.
Robert Largan MP commented:
“As your MP, I have promised to take an independent-minded approach and to put the High Peak first. More can and should be done to make public transport accessible for everyone living here.
“When Parliament returns , I will continue to push to make local public transport more accessible for everyone and make the case for Chinley.”
