To the disappointment of many residents, Buxton Museum has recently had to close.
The closure is for safety reasons, due to the discovery of dry rot in the structural timbers in ceilings and floor joists.
After making initial representations, Robert Largan MP met urgently on Monday 19 June with the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, the Rt. Hon. Lucy Frazer KC MP to raise the plight of Buxton Museum.
The Culture Secretary had already made representations with the Arts Council about the situation and is committed to working with Mr Largan, Derbyshire County Council and all others to get the Museum open again as soon as possible.
Mr Largan welcomes the intervention from the Secretary of state, which brings national attention to one of the High peak’s most significant attractions.
Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:
“Like many others, I was really sad to see that the Museum has had to close.
“Derbyshire County Council are working hard to find ways to get the museum open again but I wanted to raise this problem at a national level too. I’m really pleased that the Secretary of State has already acted so quickly to try to help.
“I’ll continue to work with everyone to find a way to get Buxton Museum open again and keep standing up for our local arts, culture and history.”
